Job Description:

We seek a passionate and skilled JV baseball assistant coach to join our dedicated athletic department at University High School. As the JV baseball assistant coach, you will play a pivotal role in fostering the growth and development of our student-athletes, both as individuals and as a cohesive team. Your expertise, enthusiasm, and commitment to instilling the values of teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship will be instrumental in building a competitive and successful baseball program.


Terms of employment: Contract

Season: Spring (January - June)

Practices: Monday through Friday, between 3:00 to 7:30 p.m.

Contests: Times vary

Compensation: $25/HR

Requirements

Coaching and Training:

  • Design and implement comprehensive training sessions that cater to players of varying skill levels and abilities.
  • Develop a well-structured and progressive program focusing on skill enhancement, tactical understanding, and physical fitness.
  • Provide individualized coaching and feedback to each player to nurture their strengths and address areas for improvement.
  • Create a positive and motivating environment that inspires players to strive for excellence and reach their full potential.
  • Create and manage a practice and game schedule that provides for excellence despite the lack of an on-campus baseball field.

Team Building:

  • Foster a sense of camaraderie and teamwork among the players, emphasizing the importance of mutual respect and support on and off the field.
  • Organize team-building activities and events to strengthen the team's bond and cohesiveness.
  • Encourage an inclusive and welcoming atmosphere that embraces diversity and celebrates the unique contributions of each team member.
  • Oversee the operation and development of the junior varsity program.
  • Create and sustain a team culture consistent with the Salesian charism emphasis on reason, religion, and kindness and the Oratory Model of home, school, church, and playground.

Competitive Participation:

  • Strategically plan game tactics and adjust strategies based on the team's strengths and the opponent's weaknesses.
  • Attend all scheduled games, home and away, and guide and motivate players during gameplay.

Student-Athlete Development:

  • Promote each student-athlete's development by emphasizing the importance of academics and character development.
  • Monitor the academic progress and behavior of student-athletes, offering support and guidance as needed.
  • Serve as a role model for student-athletes by demonstrating ethical behavior, respect, and integrity.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Ensure the safety of all players during practice sessions, games, and events by adhering to safety protocols and guidelines.
  • Comply with all school and league regulations regarding eligibility, conduct, and participation.
