POSITION SUMMARY: 

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Under the direction of the Head Gymnastics Coach, the Gymnastics Coach at Ozarks Regional YMCA leads, directs, and demonstrates the physical skills associated with the gymnastics sport. Promotes a positive, professional, and welcoming atmosphere by providing excellent leadership, instruction and motivation of participants while exemplifying our YMCA values. The Gymnastics coach will help refine gymnasts’ skills, deliver quality gymnastics classes, and help students succeed in the sport of gymnastics the YMCA program.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  1. Learn USAG rules and routines as needed for the levels being coached. 
  2. Supervise, coach and be actively involved with the class and warm up activities of children to maintain order and discipline. 
  3. Maintains records as required (attendance, progress reports, etc.) and communicate with parents and participants. 
  4. Be knowledgeable and adhere to Safety Policies, Procedures and Emergency Response Plans.  
  5. Ensure that care of members is a key priority through direct supervision of staff during program time. 
  6. Lead all program participants through curriculum and activities, supervise the participants to ensure appropriate development occurs in a fun, healthy, and safe environment.  
  7. May aid with set up and tear down of equipment. 
  8. Provide/maintain proper spotting techniques. 
  9. Work with beam, floor, trampoline and mini tramp, uneven bars, vault, and related equipment. 
  10. Regulate classes to ensure safety of the participants, stopping play when necessary and explain violations consistently and fairly. 
  11. Know, demonstrate, and interpret YMCA philosophy students. 
  12. Reports injuries to Program Director, follows safety procedures and guidelines. 
  13. Take initiative to greet and assist all members, potential members, program participants and volunteers in a courteous, professional, and friendly manner. 
  14. Works closely with the Program Director to address concerns of staff and/or members/participants, ensuring the program standards, outcomes, and member satisfaction is consistently achieved.  Sterilize all gymnastic equipment on a weekly basis.  
  15. Maintain an accurate inventory of supplies and equipment and notify Head Coach when replacement or repair is necessary. 
  16. Strictly adhere to all sports policies and procedures related to safety and conduct rules, as well as safety and conduct rules of the Ozarks Regional YMCA 
  17. Represent and promote the program in a positive manner to participants, parents, staff, and volunteers. 
  18. Attends and participates in other YMCA program activities as needed, staff meetings, and trainings. 
  19. All other duties as assigned.  

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  1. Must be 16 years of age or older.  
  2. Knowledge of correct spotting techniques. 
  3. Excellent communication skills and basic conflict resolution skills. 
  4. Previous gymnastics or cheer coaching experience preferred.  
  5. Mature, responsible, calm individuals with good communication skills.  
  6. Must be able to interact with kids and adults in a positive manner, enthusiastic, and flexible.  
  7. Must be able to align with and demonstrate the YMCA four core values on a consistent basis.  
  8. CPR Pro & First Aid Certification required within the first 30 days (training can be provided) 
  9. Possess the ability to work with varying ages and to manage small to large groups. 

 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  1. Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position for long periods of time, including walking, standing, bending, squatting, and kneeling. 
  2. Ability to physically demonstrate or communicate proper technique to associated gymnasts, tumbling, or cheer physical activities.  
  3. Ability to safely spot program participants in uneven bars, beam, or in tumbling skills. 
  4. Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity.  
  5. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  
  6. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.  
  7. Be punctual 
  8. Dress appropriately for coaching duties.
