Harlem Children’s Zone (HCZ) — a world-renowned education and poverty-fighting organization based in New York — seeks an enthusiastic, dedicated, and mission-aligned Strength and Conditioning Coach at our PA I Athletics.
The Strength and Conditioning Coach will bring a passion for the mission of Harlem Children’s Zone: break the cycle of intergenerational poverty with comprehensive, on-the-ground programming that builds up opportunities for children and families to thrive in school, work, and life.
The Strength and Conditioning Coach will join our PA I Athletics team with the responsibility of designing and implementing exercise programs to enhance athletic performance and reduce injury risk.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher
- At least two years of coaching experience
- Must hold certifications such as CSCS (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist) from the NSCA, SCCC from the CSCCa, or USA Weightlifting Level 1.

- Ensure the various athletics curriculums are structured and have clear learning goals
- Solid understanding of youth sports and safety guidelines
- Must be able to travel to away games or events
- Must have strong leadership and organizational skills, excellent writing and communication skills
- Positive, enthusiastic, collaborative, flexible, and approachable attitude
- Ability to effectively engage and motivate students
What you’ll do
- Develop and implement strength and conditioning programs tailored to the needs of athletes during in-season, off-season, and pre-season period.
- Work with sports medicine staff to rehabilitate and strengthen injured athletes.
- Provide guidance on proper nutrition, conditioning, resistance training, mobility, and recovery.
- Track athlete attendance and progress, and conduct annual needs-analysis for each sport team.
- Oversee training sessions to ensure exercises are performed correctly and safely
- Communicate and work effectively with students, colleagues, and parents
- Monitor and report on student progress and performance both in the classroom and the court
- Collaborate and consult with staff on student performance in various athletic activities and schoolwork
- Maintain ongoing communication with Athletics Program Director
- Develop positive relationships with students that promotes wellness, growth, respect, and self-esteem
- Act as a positive role model for students
- Perform other duties as assigned
Schedule
- Monday – Friday 3 pm to 7 pm
- Saturdays 11 am to 1 pm
