    General Summary

    Under general supervision, plans, instructs and assesses student learning through standards-based curricula for assigned courses and to assist in other school programs as assigned. Additionally, as Head Football Coach, the employee will be responsible for leading and managing the school's football program, focusing on developing student-athletes both on and off the field as well as fostering a positive and disciplined team culture. 

    Essential Functions

    • Supports and upholds the mission, vision and strategic goals of Lexington County School District One.

    • Effectively interacts, communicates and collaborates with students, parents, colleagues and other stakeholders to foster student learning.

    • Establishes a safe, supportive, positive and productive learning environment for all students; supervises students in classroom activities and in other areas as assigned; maintains positive behavior support and classroom management systems.

    • Demonstrates a variety of appropriate teaching skills to foster independent, creative, critical thinkers and problem solvers.

    • Designs and facilitates engaging, high level, sophisticated learning experiences and applications appropriate to prepare students for a 21st century global, knowledge-based society.

    • Teaches concepts and skills in the relevant subject matter that facilitate learning and contribute to students' academic and social/emotional development; administers the classroom curriculum for physical education and /or health as prescribed by the state standards.

    • Assists in the planning, organization, and implementation of programs as assigned.

    • Demonstrates and evaluates the effectiveness of both formative and summative assessments; monitors student progression in classwork and assists students with all phases of the course; observes student work to make criticisms and corrections; evaluates contributions in teams.

    • Collaborates with school and district personnel to evaluate effectiveness of curriculum and make suggestions for improvement.

    • Networks with school personnel regarding scheduling issues.

    • Prepares various records and forms such as lesson plans, daily and weekly activity plans, assessments, material requisitions, discipline reports, etc.

    • Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops.

    • Organizes classrooms and other settings for daily instruction.

    • Provide leadership to the football program, fostering a positive and motivating environment for both players and assistant coaches

    • Develop and communicate a clear vision for the team’s success

    • Implement effective coaching strategies to enhance players’ skills,  both individually and as a team

    • Monitor and assess the performances of players, providing constructive feedback and guidance for improvement

    • Plan and conduct regular team practices, focusing on skill development, game strategies, and physical conditioning

    • Create a well-organized and efficient practice schedule that maximizes player development

    • Develop and implement effective game plans, making strategic decisions during contests

    • Analyze opponents’ strengths and weaknesses to exploit opportunities for success

    • Foster a sense of teamwork, camaraderie, and sportsmanship among players

    • Encourage positive communication and collaboration on and off the field

    • Stay informed and in compliance with all relevant South Carolina High School League rules and regulations

    • Actively engage with the community, building support for the football program through events, fundraisers, and outreach

    • Operates general office and technology equipment needed for daily activities.

    • Maintains confidentiality regarding all employee and student information.

    • Participates in all professional meetings and training sessions as required.

    • Selects, requests, and maintains an inventory of instructional aides, technology tools, equipment, supplies and materials needed for daily activities; provides for safe storage and proper use of all tools, equipment and materials.  

    • Meets with parents, administrators and school counselors as needed to discuss student performance, social and emotional needs, behavior, personal and academic goals and expectations, etc.; issues reports in accordance with school board policy to inform parents/guardians of students’ progress; suggests interventions as appropriate.

    • Effectively uses personal computing devices and software applications for the management of pertinent information and communication.

    • Performs other related duties as required.

    Minimum Education/Work Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in relevant teaching content or related area of discipline with previous student teaching experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities

    • Valid South Carolina teaching certification 

    • Valid South Carolina driver’s license

    • Football coaching experience at the high school level (or higher level)

    Knowledge/Skills

    Knowledge of the policies, procedures and activities of the school district which pertain to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position. Knowledge of and ability to implement methods for developing lesson plans, materials and classroom activities which stimulate learning and provide for personalization. Knowledge of and ability to implement training methods used in teaching physical education. Ability to provide instruction to students using 21st century teaching techniques and/or supervised practice. Ability to supervise students and maintain order in various classroom and instructional situations. Ability to demonstrate organizational and time management skills. Knowledge of the records, forms and reports which must be prepared and maintained. Knowledge of and ability to demonstrate proper maintenance, safe operation and utilization of equipment, materials and supplies used in daily activities. Knowledge of student services available and referral procedures. Ability to identify student adjustment and/or academic problems. Ability to provide counseling and/or recommend appropriate remedial action. Ability to demonstrate high level application of technology devices in the performance of daily activities. Ability to interact and communicate effectively with administrators, students, parents, colleagues and all other stakeholders involved in the activities of the job.  

    Working Conditions

    Conducts duties in a classroom environment and in outdoor settings with no significant exposure to adverse environmental conditions. Requires constant attention working with students. Physical demands are restricted to classroom work requiring occasional lifting/moving of items up to fifty pounds. Occasional travel is required; limited overnight travel required.

    Responsibility

    Responsible for supervision of students in classrooms and other instructional settings. Responsible for classroom materials and supplies budget (if applicable). Responsible for maintenance and inventory of equipment; responsible for reporting equipment malfunctions and safety issues. 

    Evaluation

    Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the school board’s policy on evaluation of certified personnel.
