Kansas Athletics is partnering with Turnkey ZRG, who will serve as a search advisor to assist in the national search for the next leader of Kansas Volleyball. 

 

Position Summary

The head coach oversees all aspects of the program and is responsible for the organization, development, and leadership of the athletic program in support of the mission and core values of the Athletic Department/University.

Duties and Responsibilities of all Positions at Kansas Athletics

  • Adhere to University, Big 12 Conference, Kansas Athletics and NCAA policies and procedures;
  • Maintain knowledge of departmental activities, sports schedules and procedures;
  • Foster cooperative working relationships with fellow staff members within the department;
  • Support the athletics departmental goals and philosophies as described by the Director of Athletics, and works to achieve and uphold the department’s mission statement and core values;
  • Maintain a positive attitude toward performing job duties and working with other staff members;
  • Exhibit professional decorum at all times while representing Kansas Athletics, including routine events and meetings that occur outside of the office and on the road;
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all information obtained while an employee of Kansas Athletics including all private, confidential, or sensitive information and ensuring compliance with FERPA, HIPAA, and other applicable regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Position

  • Develop and implement an overall recruiting plan to identify, recruit, and retain top prospective student-athletes;
  • Demonstrate effective teaching and coaching skills, tactics, and technique;
  • Coordinate practice planning, skill development, and design coaching strategies which prepare team for competition;
  • Establish and enforce rules of conduct as well as mentor student-athletes to foster athletic, academic, emotional, and social growth;
  • Collaborate with Athletic units on admissions, financial aid, academic support, legal affairs, student-athlete development, and compliance;
  • Work with Kansas Team Health staff regarding sports medicine guidelines for the health, safety and well-being of student-athletes;
  • Demonstrate adherence to University, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations while overseeing activities of Assistant Coaches, staff who work with the volleyball program, and student-athletes to verify compliance with a clear mandate to self-report any violations;
  • Promote the team and establish a competitive schedule;
  • Prepare a reasonable budget in coordination with sport administrator and CFO;
  • Hire, supervise, and guide the professional development of assistant coach and support staff by providing expanded responsibilities, regular appraisals, and annual performance reviews;
  • Willingness to foster positive public relations through Athletics and University efforts;
  • Engage and actively pursue Kansas alumni and fund-raising opportunities.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university;
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience working with student-athletes at an NCAA Intercollegiate Athletics program;
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of technical and strategic aspects of the game of volleyball;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituents in a diverse community;
  • Ability to teach, lead, motivate and guide student-athletes;
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment;
  • Commitment to diversity and to serving the needs of a diverse population;

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Master’s Degree;
  • Head coaching experience at the Division I college or professional level within the last four years proven record of success.

Work Environment

This job operates in both a professional office environment and at volleyball-related events. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers and various digital devices, including, but not limited to:  cell phone, printer, copy machine, and other related devices. This job requires flexibility and adaptability in schedule and the ability to perform job related duties on short notice.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. This position may require frequent bending, moving, lifting, and carrying material weighing up to 50 pounds, and standing up to eight hours each day.

 Travel

Moderate travel is expected for this position.

 Hours of Work

This is a full-time position.  Days and hours of work will vary based on the needs of the volleyball program and as job duties demand. Early morning, evening and weekend work is required.
